LinkStation Pro Duo 1TB Network Attached Storage Reviews

Supports both RAID 0 and 1 arrays, good price, SSH comes stock, but involves a bit of hacking
Poor mac support, web-based browsing is rather feature-deficient, no independent power management

Here's my setup: This is hooked into my D-Link DSL-2640B wireless DSL modem as a part of an all Mac network. At this time, it does not interface very well with Leopard, despite its Bonjour advertisement. As I mentioned above, SSH can be enabled but you'll have to do a bit of hacking. The SSH binaries are present in the stock firmware, but just not enabled. I recommend googling for instructions as this is a pretty basic feature that should be enabled. If you want to connect to this remotely I recommend configuring some sort of Dynamic DNS updater on your router and then using cyberduck OR a combination of MacFUSE and Mac Fusion. The web-based interface is surprisingly useless as you can only download, and not upload, files from the server. There are no context menus for file management in the web-based interface. Additionally, Buffalo is not very mac-friendly. Resource fork files (the "._" files) appear in the web-based interface. I am trying to figure a better way of managing these shares remotely, as that was the main reason I purchased this product. Lastly, this product comes with a form of power management that essentially ties it in with a computer. When the computer's on, it turns on. When the computer turns off, it turns off; which, in my mind, defeats the point. IF I just wanted a server to be on when my computer was on, I'd use the computer as a server. I wish it could spin the hard drives down after a period of inactivity like a regular computer does; and this is a regular computer, complete with a CPU and operating system. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this product, but I think I can hack it enough to make it usable.
